I Need Help!.....You will not believe this...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would do exactly the same thing! If a Pima showed up in my storm drain I would call fellow MFKers (KevinFleming, Mike_ Sema) and we would dig a huge pit and try to keep that future un-disputable monster.

I say go for it!

Truly an unbelievable thread. I hope to look back at this thread and smile. Maybe years from now your still giving us updates on this monster!

Give this guy the best shot you can. It's still alive so that alone is a win! Good luck! :clap

Thanks Egon, Gar88, for the comments...helps strengthen the resolve...
Indeed truly looking forward to getting this little baby a comfortable and clean home.
Plans are shaping up in my head for the pond. It all comes together now.

Have attached a picture of my just renovated house and you can see on the left side the second one I bought.

The space between the houses is 3.6 meters, middle on both sides has windows from the floor to the roof, about 10 meters high.
Windows are the reason I bought the house, very light and bright house because of it and with the second one, I can slowly start building a large fishroom and everything else me and my wife like to do.

Back to the pond...would start digging the rectangular shape first I think. 7.5 x 1.8 meters.
That way I can keep our renovated side clean and separate until renovation gets truly underway.
Part with a cover, pond will sure be liner type inside a concrete box.
Just don't want to mess with epoxy or any other substances and I think it makes for more easy expansion, changes of the pond and repairs.

What I wonder about is the jumping.
Anybody have any experience or suggestions on that?
I figure that keeping it well fed will avoid it searching for food and jump.
Still, I need to make sure it does not jump against the window or anywhere else.
Large net above the pond, about 2.5 meters in the air will avoid birds and cats getting to the pond.
1 side for time being is 1.8 meter high concrete wall, the other side is the window and after that brick wall again.

So pretty much enclosed. Can hang planters around it to give it shade and hiding places, breaking up the view.

Drainage and filter will be floor-standing drain pump at the deep end of the pond, feeding into 100liter drum with filter floss and bio-media, then gravity-fed back into the pump.

wow, how a fish randomly comes into your life and suddenly you're making a new pool between your two (?) houses lol i won't say if the size of the pool is sufficient enough for the arapaima, as i don't know much about this species except for seeing it on "River Monsters" (television show), but keep up the good work! It's undeniable there's a lot of thinking involved with a project this large, good luck! ;)

Thanks for your comment. Indeed would not have thought monster fish keeping anytime soon.

Well, first small victory. He's eating well. Swallowed away a bag full of prawn this Sunday. Brought about 600 feeders this morning, he's happily chasing them. Swimming like a king in his new home.
Looks to be doing ok. Moving around but just in a curious way, snatching feeders if he can get them end just keeps moving and chasing.

Now we need to look for the next step. Anybody can tell me how many times a week for feeding? 1 time? 2 times? Daily? And how much?

Really appreciate your help and answers on this.

Thanks and regards,
Luc

I also saw some small gars in the market where I bought the feeders. 5 baht a piece, babies really at about 2" but that would make a nice pond mate maybe...need to check on it.
Feeders surprisingly cheap. Paid 80 baht or 2.50 US for 100 sailfin and 200 baht or 7 USD for 500 other small fish, no idea of the name...

I have no idea how much to feed it but I do know you will get more traffic or answers if you posted this under another thread in the "General Aquaria Discussion" part of the forums. Hope this helps

I think its great you are making the effort to keep that monster. Lucky fish to have shown up in YOUR storm drain.

Cant wait to see what you end up doing.
