Its easy for every 5 guppies you will need approx 1 gal of water. It goes this way according to the calculation. The fish is approx. 1.5"long x .25" wide x .50 high = .1875 gals per fish x 5 fish =.9375 gals or approx 1gal per 5 fish. Multiply 5fish /gal x 30 gals =150 guppies. But if it were me i wouldn't put that many in one tank just to be safe. This depends on how well you maintain your tank, how much you feed, the type/amount of filtration etc. At 5 guppies per gal you would be maxing out your tank, and really dont want to do that.

I call BS.
Since when does anyone in thier right mind add that many runty gup's in X amount of water?

You also have to keep in mind that in general, guppies are mid to upper tank swimmers. The 30G would need something to fill out the bottom. Say, some small cats to feed upon the fry?

Just get 12 guppies. 8 females, and 4 males. Get 5 cory catfish, 2 snails, some ghost shrimp, and you'll be fine. My 2 guppies are 3" long, so expect them to grow that big in a period of 6 months. If you get any less, your tank will be fine, but if you get more than 12 guppies, 5 cory catfish, and 2 snails, You will run into a nitrate problem. 5 fish per gallon is like 5 people trying to fit into a closet! Not enough room! Catfish will help balance out the nitrates in the tank, and the snails eat the algae. While the guppies...poop. LOL.

3''? Those are monster guppies.

How exactly would ANY catfish (or any fish at all) balance out nitrate? Wouldn't, like all fish, they just make it worse? ;)

go buy 6 3m3f and in 3 months get a small cat fish to keep the fry in check
