I am having a big problem with one of my leopard geckos eyes. I noticed about a week and a half ago that its eye was discharging some stuff and swollen shut. So I took her out to get a closer look. As I had it in my hand it struggled to get away and flung its head and with that blood was flung. So I put her back and let her be as stress free as possible and the eye the returned to be swollen up and sealed shut by what I now know is blood. So a few days later I was able to get it into the vet. And he was able to get her eye unsealed and he looked under the eyelid and found a blood clot and he removed it. So he checked over her and other than her eye she was very healthy and told me there was no active bleeding. So I was getting ready to leave and he looked at her one last time and guess what her eye was bleeding again. So he decided to keep her for the day and watch her. So when I go to get her he said her eye was fine and no active bleeding. I look at her before I go to make sure everything was ok and it looked fine just a little swollen which didnt surprise me considering that she had her eye messed around with all day. So I get her home and have her in her habitat and she is acting ok. Then I noticed a few days later that her eye is stuck shut again with blood. And now I have noticed that she has lost her appetite and isnt eating I tried hand feeding her a cricket earlier today and she had it in her mouth chewed it up and then she spit it out so I am now becoming lost as what to do. I am not horribly worried about her not eating because she has a a good weight now. But as for her eye I have no clue since hte only herp vet around here told me she was fine I dont know what to do with her. Any suggestions would be awesome.

what substrate do you use, could be something like calci sand stuck in it or at least what started it.Either way if you use an abrasive substrate then you might change it,I know its not going to change whats already happend but also what about cacti or other decor? As far as treatment im not sure, you might try another vet or just follow up with that one.Go check on a gecko only site too.

Ya I have always left crickets in the cage because it had never been an issue before she always had them eaten in no longer than an hour. But I will make sure that I stop doing that now. And as for th eye drops I am really not sure if her eye will even open now but I can attempt it. I know it isnt the substrate I had her on carpet and all of te decor in her cage has smooth surfaces no pointed or sharp parts to them I checked that first. Does anyone know a herp vet in the wichita KS area? Because I only know of one. And what is a good gecko site? Thanks for the help already.

Try to flush the eye out with sterile saline drops. How's the humidity in the cage? If it's on the dry side, the discharge from the eye will just keep drying and will glue the eye shut.

Do you mean like contact saline solution? Well the humidity in the cage did go crap while I was in Australia I had my mom look over them and she didnt realize I wanted her to mist them too so she didnt so the only humidity she had was from her water bowl. I am raising it since I got home so I will try that too.

Yeah any type of sterile saline drops will work. Do you have a humid hide? You can make one from a tuperware container. Just cut out a hole in the side (smooth out any sharp edges) and place either moist moss inside or damp paper towels. That way you won't raise the humidity in the cage, just in the container. Too much humidity for leopard geckos can lead to respiratory infections and you don't need any more issues.
