Ok, I bought this tank off craigslist. It was supposed to be a 125g tall, but it seems to be a 110g tank. The issue becomes is it was set up a saltwater tank with a sump system. i plug the sump holes and hooked my canisters into the back overflow of the tank, my water parameters are all of wack. I was think the filters are not doing their jobs. So I ask is how can i get this tank set up to run the correct way, someone please give me some guidance. Here are some pics to help. By the way this will have a Ehiem 2026, and a 2028 on it. Can these be plumbed into the the old sump hook ups. Also this will be a planted tank.

Have not cleaned the tank, or the canister. The canister came off of my 55g cichlid tank, it had been running for well over 2 months. Parameters are nitrate 20, ph7.0, nitrite2.0, ammonia 1.0

it was an old SW tank? maybe your parameter are out of wack because you didnt clean the tank prio to adding the filter and new water

need to give the tank a good cleaning and then fill it back up and let your filters run for a bit then check and see where its at

Sounds like something got your tank cycling all over again...... did you add lots of stock all at once after you cycled?

To answer most of your questions, i scrubbed the tank for almost three days with water and vingar. And the only stock that i have add to the tank are 5 black skirt tetras. i made sure the water was very clear, before I decided to set it up. Now i did forget to put prime in the tank on the first fill up but that was two day before fish went in. Could this have destoryed the cycle that was in the filter? I will be putting on another cycled filter this weekend will this help fix the problem? Also will having it set up with the canisters in the over flow area provide filteration for the rest of the tank?

yep chlorine killed the bio filter.

Adding a cycled filter will help but not fix the problem.

I would suggest buying some safestart bio in a bottle. It works great and will fully cycle that tank in about 2-3 days. And you only have to add it once.
