I need help!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am going to take a filter pad from another filter install it into my running canister filter and hook up a second filter that is cycled. I also have two biowheels with already setup media, so I can give it a very big kickstart. Also would it help if i add some of my plants to the tank from my planted tank, that has been running for over 1 year?

Do you have a decent amount of light in the tank? If the plants are photosynthesizing in the tank they will help the water quality, otherwise they won't help.

I will have 210w of light on the tank. I have to install the lights tomorrow then I will be moving the other pants into the tank.

Is the intake and output of the canister moving enough water or do I need to find a way to have the water pull from right above the substrate?

You should be OK. The only way to really know is to get this tank running and established, then decide if it is doing an adequate job of keeping the detritus out of the tank.

OK, thanks I will get the tank seeded with some other media tonight and see if I can help things along.

Here are some pics that I hope will help with description on how the canisters are set up. What would I have to do to switch the tank to a sump setup, and how much would it cost me to do it? What would this do to my co2? If you look at the last pic you could see the old intake pipe and the old output i think i am correct in thinking that is what they are?

If you are running Co2, then you probably do not want a sump. But plumbing the tank for the sump would be very simple and only cost a few bucks. But you would also need a sump or wet/dry. Prices on these can vary based on whether you are buying one or making one.

How would one plum one of these, and how would one make one?

I have decided to run a sump. How do I make a sump, and what is the best way? Can one be made out of rubbermaid conatiners?
