I NEED HELP!

Diogenes - Why can't I have just one RBP? Do they not do good by themselves?

Ok, so I know now that 6 RBP's is too many for my tank and after doing some more research I think I'm going to stay away from RBP's anyways, now I thinking something more along the lines of maybe 2 or 3 Black Piranha. Any comments on that?

Also no one really answered my question of what I need for my tank. I'm pretty new to this so I have no clue really what I need. I know I need a filter, pump, and heater, but there are so many different kinds to choose from, what do I get? Thanks again.

RBP's can get up to a foot long. 75g is minimum for 4, although 125g is really recommended minimum. You can't keep ONE RBP in a 29g.

your 29g is pretty much too small for any piranhas in the long run.
if you start with a small serra (such as sanchezi) then it can last a while until you can upgrade as it grows slowly and doesn't get too big
black piranha aka rhombeus is solitary piranha and needs to be kept alone and they get big as well but grow very slowly after 6-7" mark so it might buy you some time

I recommend doing alot more research before you purchase anything.

Someone said RBPs just sit there motionless? Maybe with your lame set up. Mine are always active.

I used a 29 long to grow out my single RBP.............one year that's all you'll get before the fish becomes obviously uncomfortable and it will be time to upgrade.

My Rhom's in that same 29 however his 75 is already cycled, planted, and growin' out
a payara and the payara's 150 is cycled thru and grownin' out my pair of Festae awaiting their 265 - startin' to get the picture ???

go MONSTER ot go home??

I say go with a school of exodons, go with maybe 8-10. They are very active and will stay small enough to live in the 29, while being aggresive enough to satisfy you. Keep it simple and get a Penguin 350 off the back filter, and a 150 watt heater. You dont need an air pump unless you just want some bubbles in the tank. Exodons will eat flake or frozen food, but will tear apart feeders almost as well as RBP.

AGREED ! for both things. my red are always active swimming around comming up to the glass when im about to feed em only time mine hide is when my finger so much as breaks the surface they they go nuts lol

back on topic

the reason you cant put a single RBP in a 29 IS NOT because they dont do well singly its becuase 1 simply grows too large, the inside of a 29 gallon is 11" wide a full grown red will be atleats 12" ive heard of 13 of 14" and so wouldnt be able to turn around not to mention it would have such a small space to swim
