my green terror is acting strange... It has turned very dark and is either hiding or laying on the bottom, its breathing has also become an issue as it takes several breaths.

How long has the tank been set up? Sounds like it could be high Ammonia, Nitrate, or Nitrite levels.

if it were that all the fish would be having problems.. its only this one...i dun know if something is beating it up at night...my convict has been being a prick lately.

Definatly test your water. Test everything PH, Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite

Why have you got 2 fish (or do you have more?) in a two week old tank, cichlids are messy feeders and need excellent filtration, Your convict is a bit more hardier than your terror, so I guess isn't as stressed, but it will be stressed all the same, test water and do a 20% water change, hold of feeding for about 3 days and then test again.

Lets not freak out :WHOA: How else would you presume to get the cycle going....little tough w/out the fish Chap.... If its a 55, whooptie...two to start isn't squat.

The cycle is pretty much coming round the bend in two weeks pal, but they are right in the fact of.... Test your water and get a decent size water change done ASAP....you don't have to put down a bowl of icecream or anything but if you're watching this screen or the boob tube, hop to it. Slam one new cartridge/carbon and that'll ease things a bit while all the bacteria is catching up in the cycle.

P.S. They aren't messy feeders unless you're feeding them too much at once and it's blowing excessivly out of the gill plates ;)

ok do not change your cartridge if you are using an external power filter as this is where the nitrifying bacteria grows that is breaking down the ammonia and nitrite... add some salt as the ammonia and nitrite blocks oxygen from passing across the gill membrane and this will help. I also would say that some amquel + will help as well salt =1 tsp per gal.
