Never had trouble transporting fish with the bucket and aerator method.
I wouldn't do water changes with distilled, distilled has none of essential elements in it that fish need. If you change out too much water with distilled it might be bad for your fish.
I'd take some jugs of whatever water you use to do water changes on your tanks, be it dechlorinated tapwater or whatever else and change out water with that.
