I have one...I think...it's a Vampire Pleco, at least that's what I've been told. Is it this?

wow i hope soooooo!! I have not seen it yet.. the lfs said i would love it and he gave me a good deal..he said it would be large but he did not know what large meant to the wholesaler and he said it was coming in thurs and thats all i know, i can never turn down a pleco deal..:D

yeah, galaxy/dracula/vampire plecos are all the same thing--L. galaxias. I believe the L-number is L007. I have one now and it's pretty good sized. I have noticed it is very aggressive and will stake out a territory and defend it well, even against much larger fish. Mine seems to eat anything really, but I feed it omega1 veggie rounds at least 3 times a week. Very nice looking plec.

L007 is probably what you're getting. They're a big fish and can get nasty, especially with other similarly patterened or sized fish. A local guy here had 3 L200 green phantoms killed by a male L007 vampire.

They get around 10" (don't quote me on that, but they get big), and require a meaty diet. The ones I've seen prefer to remain hidden.

Beautiful fish, but not great for a pleco community

I have my Vampire with my Green Phantom and they both get along providing they're not going for the same piece of food. I got a couple of driftwood and rocks to provide some hiding spaces.

Vampire is still going strong. It had a brush with some fin rot so one of it's pectoral fins is a bit bent since the other one fell off and it grew a new one. I think the Adonis was 7". He was the second one I had. The first one I got was like 10 year ago before I ever saw them on sale again. So when I saw it, I had to snag one. Unfortunately, it didn't make it. But I'm loving the Vampire and Green Phantom. The Vampire is VERY secretive (that's why I didn't notice the fin rot at first :irked:) I feed it shrimp and it does munch on the algae wafers when I throw it in there. But as for the algae in the tank...let's just say that cleaning glass isn't on their top priority list. It's funny though...every time I do water changes and siphon the tank, they go underneath the driftwood and fan out any debris for me to siphon out. I'm sure they're not doing it on purpose, but it's nice that they do that for me. :D
