So in the past i have posted threads asking for advice for my pet nile monitor and I just wanted to start of by saying i know that nile monitors get really big and i know that nile monitors are agressive, people have replied saying that "they grow huge" "they are killing machines" and " do you even know what you are doing?" and i know about all of the things that come with owning a big lizard so i would appreciate it if you are going to reply to this thread, to please not say that bc i am aware of these things.
Anywayy . . . so about 1 or 2 months(yes i know months) ago umm my nile somehow escaped. I honestly dont know how this happened but at the same time i kinda expected it. The reason why i say that i dont know what happened tho is because i always have something on top of the terrarium to put weight on it and prevent my nile from pushing it open and escaping. The good thing i can say tho is that i know where my nile is but this is the part where i need help. So my nile went into my bathroom down the hall where its terrarium is and at the bottom of a cabinet there is a hole that sepparates the cabinet and the wall. The bad part is that my nile just wont come out! I have put food outside and so far she has eaten it but i just dont know how to get her out or what to trap her with. So if you have any advice or tricks and traps(that wont hurt the lizard)that would be SO SO helpful :)

Thanks for your help in advance.

Also i forgot to mention i do know all of the dangers and sicknesses that can come with my nile not being in her terrarium and in that cabinet for too long

Lol.

They can go weeks without eating. That being said it's going to probably wait until it dies before coming out. You are going to have to tear whatever its jammed itself into out. Otherwise it's going to die in there.

Jumping on the bandwagon of "do research before buying" you honestly should have done more research on monitor husbandry before buying a nile. Just because they are extremely "cheap" to purchase doesn't mean they are cheap to keep. One of the largest monitors available and one of the largest appetites to match. Not to mention the are one of the hardest species to calm down in captivity. Should have went with an Ackie monitor.

Good luck.

I do know that monitors can go for long without eating and i did do research before i got it its funny how people will think that you are dont do research before buying a pet and assume the worst in you as a pet owner because of one mistake they did that they think they are all of a sudden bad owners now. also what was the "lol" for? did you even read the first part of my thread? I was trying to avoid unecessary coments like yours. Thanks for the advice i guess??

Anyhow, any sign of the monitor, have you taken apart the cabinet yet?

I agree having owned all sorts or reptiles throughout my life, that cabinet has to come out. I would also say you need to invest in locking mechanisms for the enclosure. I had an Argus monitor and that damn thing was like the Einstein of reptiles. I watched her pull the air vents out of the enclosure. They had to be turned about 90 degrees to disengage the locking tabs. Those got epoxied in place. I know you say you did research. I'm not trying to beat you up. But this is honestly a rookie mistake. Imagine what could have happened if that was full grown or even half grown. A neighbor could have lost a loved pet or possibly a child. You need to be more careful, that is a dangerous animal. You need to treat it as one. Good luck getting back where it belongs. I hope it all works out for you guys.

Just curious do you keep fish?

thanks and no i do not have fish although i am interested in them and would like to have some in the future

I have no experience baiting out lizards, but I used peanut butter to lure out a chipmunk that refused to come out from under a bathroom cabinet.

Though it sounds like your monitor doesn’t have the same drive for food to make luring a very reasonable option.

Can you use something like a stick or wire to coax it out?

Any reason you don’t want to remove the cabinet?

Yes i saw her about 2 days ago and no i have not taken out the cabinet because i think there is another way to get her out
Glad you saw her, please keep us posted on how this progresses.

I'm curious as to what the removal plan is.I would want the monitor out of there as soon as possible.
