This thread is the nightmare of everyone who works for a fish store and I am in.

"It's not my water, it's your water. My water is crystal clear. I don't care what your tests say."

Lmao, I can't tell you how many times I've heard that one.

And for the PetSmart employees: "Ummmm, why do you guys put lemons and pickles in your tanks?!" :screwy:

My pet peeve: People that ask for fish to do the work.

"I need a fish to eat algae, a fish to eat fish crap, a fish to eat snails, and a fish that can run a Python...."

Even people that count on equipment to do the work.

"I need a filter that will remove nitrate, mine is too high. I want a maintenance free tank."

My response:

"We stock maintenance free tanks. In fact, all of our tanks we sell are maintenance free. They're empty."

Fight the battle guys. I've worked in my fair share of pet stores, from chain to beginning aquatics, and just about everything in between. All we can do is educate the newer hobbyists to the way of things. Sometimes that won't change anything, but that is where you say that you refuse to sell them the fish. :D

I like the wording I use some time..

"Sure, you can get that fish... but it's going to die"

"Yeah, get a couple, but they will get big and kill each other eventually"

"You kept your Oscar alive for 2 whole years? Thats like 1/6th it's total lifespan, and you seem pretty proud.. That's like keeping your offspring alive until the age of 18.. Wow."

"But the fish grows to the size of the tank right?"

"No, they just stop growing when they are dead."

I probably refuse more sales than I make. :D
