So do most systems. I use hot water direct from the tap as I have a Combi Boiler(heat water as I need it) it stored hot water thats the problem. Because the water never boils in stored system you get bugs growing in there, its not because of copper pipes.
 
Copper pipe is only a possible problem when it is new, minerals in the water coat the inside of the pipe with use and copper no longer leaches into the water. Depending on your water, it takes 6mo.s to a year to coat it.

I wouldn't even bring it into the calculations unless you are going to breed some very rare things that are know to be susceptible.

Always backup your float switches or sensors when your dealing with a constant water flow.

A "T" is fine if you want to cut into the plumbing, a tap can just be shut off when you finish using it (and it is a limited flow due to the small size of the fitting).

Or you could make Grecian columns 7' high and 1' in diameter out of PVC and line them up around the walls (35g ea.) :D
