A friend of mine is selling me his 135 and it comes with a Red Atabapo pike. I've tried looking every place I can think of for info on this guy, but I can't even figure out its scientific name. I need to know its water conditions so I can set the tank up before bringing it in. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks,
Steve

I tried the search feature, all it gave me was cool pictures.

And you're the one driving the bus...:p

Speaking of that, who do I talk to about getting a smiley wearing a helmet?

Crenicichla sp. "Atabapo" They come from Eastern Colombia and western Venezeula, pH 6-7, Temp 78-82F, usually will eat just about anything. Ken

Thank you Ken!!! My GH ranges from 10-12. I'm assuming this will be ok as well?

Thanks Again Ken,

Steve

Careful. There are two fish with the "Atabapo" location as part of their name.

There is Cr. sp. "Atabapo" which is commonly referred to as a Fire Pike. This is an undescribed species. It's hard to confise this fish with any other as they have pretty unique markings.

Then there is Cr. lugubris "Atabapo". These seem to be much more common in recent years.

Post some pics and we can better help you.

I can't get pic's yet :( as I do not have the fish. The guy who has it said it was a bright red color. I will take pictures when I get the fish into one of my tanks. Most likely on the 20th or so. I will test his water to make sure mine is close.

Thanks,
Steve
