I need some help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
An upgrade is definitely what it needs. In better water conditions and a better variable diet.

Right now I'm doing w/c every other day @ 40-50% & feeding 3 times (small amounts) every other day in between w/c. I'm still searching for metronidazole to treat the wounds and Vita-chem to add to prepared foods. I think I'll have to buy some on line.

The previous owner did not know what w/c meant & was feeding it feeders :irked:

Ouch thats some bad HITH keep changeing its ater regulerly a 135 should be fine for it depending on the dimensiopns of it as those pikes don't get over 14'' if i remember right just keep its water clean and give it a good diet poor ntrition and bad water quality are the toips causes of HITH so itsn no wounder its so ad if he never did water changes and feed it feeders

It looks like it has a bacteria inection as we'll clear that up with a litte meds and then from there only time will clear up that HITH

I'm not really sure that's HLLE. HLLE usually infects the lateral line(hence the name) first then spreads across the body in severe cases. I don't see a single sign of HLLE on the lateral line. If it's not HLLE, it is likely a bad bacterial infection, which should heal up nicely with minimal scaring and pitting.

Looks C. lugubris 'Atabapo' to me.

I finaly took some decent photos, I hope this helps...

PAINFUL to see a bad case of Hith, especially an otherwise robust red atabapo. Last winter our 13" male wasn't doin well for a couple weeks, got bloat real quick & died. We use Metronidazole for Hith and internal diseases, full-strength available from Jehmco with FDA form req'd.
I'd say the lack of water changes by the previous owner is the primary cause for such severe pitting, bad water quality is unforgivable.............

those photos are painful to look at. sounds like he has a better home now and hopefully he recovers. keep us updated with pictures and methods of treatment/medications.
