I would just give him food that he will eat for now. I would not try any starving strategy until he is bigger but I have known some aros to take pellets without any hesitation. There are a lot of foods you can try, just cut them up into appropriate size pieces. They are generally not to picky. If he won't eat pellets, my Jar really never liked pellets, than just feed him as much variety as possible. I would stay away from feeder fish altogether unless you have no choice. Just head down to your local lfs or grocery store and pick up a variety of foods that a predator fish would like.
