I am a freshwater fish breeder and i want to take it to the next level. i think i have a 50 gallon tank with two baby largemouth bass and i need help. What i need to know is what kind of stingray i need, care, and what kind of tank.

thanks for the help! :newbie: is wat i am started today

Well a few things that may burst your bubble, my friend.

1. Freshwater stingrays are prohibited in the Sunshine state. Atlantic rays are the exception, but they are neither entirely freshwater nor small.

2. There's really no such thing as a "small" freshwater ray. Even with some of the smaller rays (i.e. hystrix) you're looking at plenty more than a 50 gallon to house a pair capable of reproducing.

This site is great and has a TONNE of information for a ray newbie. I suggest starting with the stickies and reading some of the old posts in here to get started. Unfortunately, if you're serious about pursuing rays, you may need to look at relocating!

Cheers,

Brandon

Welcome to the hobby.

Study the stickies in this Forum. Conduct some topic searches in this Forum. FL does not allow freshwater rays of the type we talk about here.

I concur with FM's advice. Do the research first.

you can find out some ray sizes by reading stickies and doing research. the stickies and search function will answer almost all of your questions. then come back with what type of rays you are looking at and what you will be keeping them in and then ask your remaining questions. also remove your location from your profile if you are going to be asking for advice on rays that arent legal in your state.
