hi MFKs, today i went to my LFS, to buy so zoanthids me for my nanoreef, and after some time of talking with a guy there, he told me i can make a special order of arowana if i wanted, but they have to be Amazonians (black and silver).

now I'm finishing in a week or two, my 600+ aquarium, with a footprint of 10x3x3, if you were me, how many aros would you put in there?

also, is there a difference in behavior between silver and black aros?

Blacks are more docile than silvers.... blacks also do not have negative genetic susceptibilities like drop eye. If you have the money, go for the black.

"negative genetic susceptibilities" :duh:where do you guys come up with this? If this were true then explain why wild caught silvers get DE.

I myself would shoot for 2 silvers and 3 blacks as a final number. You will probably want to start with more then that as juvies. There is a good chance there will be fighting so you may need a means of separation or isolation. A community will take work as far as finding the right mix goes, mostly dependant on the individual fish.

The reason why I said it is a "negative genetic" trait is because I doubt anyone here actually wants dropeye in their fish. Whether it is found in nature or not, not everyone finds it as a "positive" trait.

First of all blacks do get DE,but I would like for you to show me a link or study or some substantial info connecting DE to genetics. Many agree from experience that DE is caused by head trauma, usually do to being kept in too small a tank. The OP has a nice large tank and may be able to raise silvers that are DE free.

x2, doubt genetics plays a role in DE at all.

x3!!

I will go with 6 Black Arowana because:

1. Little chance to get a DE
2. More chance to keep them together (but you never know if they will tolerate each other)
3. More chance to get pair and maybe breeding

And in my opinion they are more pretty than silver.

Good Luck !

Did somebody see Black Arowana with DE ?

Black Aro dont get DE rofl. I dont really think so. I even seen Red asian aro get DE. david17 how many aros in the tank and what other fish U are planning to put in the tank also effect how many aros U will put in. that's IMO anyways. Good luck.
