I NEVER have Nitrates... question

Just a note all test kits are pretty much the same. They all buy there chemical from Lilly the drug company who owns the patent. All the different companies buy the chemical in different percentages to make there color charts slightly different then each others. But its all the same stuff.

I didn't realize that, but it makes sense. Nice to know. What's up with the 3 bottle tests some people have?

How long have you had the tank running? When I seed new tanks with old filter media I have zero nitrates for months afterwards. I have a 10 gallon that I seeded last february, and the nitrates rarely reach 5ppm. I had a bunch of little fish in it, and now it just has a pair of Betta channoides. Some of my older tanks have 10-20 ppm nitrates and I water change them every two weeks or so.

IMO Low nitrates are a pest, because I always get cyanobacteria from the tap water in tanks with 0 nitrates.

What's up with the 3 bottle tests some people have?

I'm ot sure maybe there getting one of the parts in 2-part solution just to be different.

Which is brand is better. API gives the most test for the money.
