I picked up the 180.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Its looking a lot better this morning. The water is a lot more clear...

DB junky....i also forgot to mention i added a magnum 350 and a fluval 405 to this tank.

Things i learned and needs to be shared....
when i broke down my wet/dry to clean i started in the tub to wash them all one by one...after cleaning about 30 of them i said screw it and put all of them in the washing machine..it worked great.

also..when using pvc pipe i would suggest not using the cement meant for pvc pipe.
I use aquarium sealent. It strong enough to hold everything in place, its waterproof and its not so strong to be able to break apart with "human strength"...thus being able to reuse all pipes and elbow's for the future.

I asked about the drain cause the horizontal GPH for a single piece of pvc is like 850 gph.

You need to have a certain length of vertical drop to achieve terminal velocity. NOT having this drop reduces GPH. Having 2 1.5 drains "T"ing together is not gonnna help flow at all.

If it was me I'd get the drains split up, use sanitary "T"s off the tank, get your verticle length right and if you're lucky you might have a chance at flowing that 4K, but all these things still might not allow it. I had to go to a 1.5 and a 2" drain just to keep up with a Dart, which isn't 4K GPH. Guess it kinda depends on the quality of pump too as we all know not all 4K GPH pumps are the same.

Thanks and please do!

its not a paper that i used. Its what we call a "rubber" its a rubber that will with stand sand blasting.
I am a stone carver and i carve Headstones. we use a "cutter" or "plotter" to cut the names, dates and what ever else the family wants on the stone.
i just simply printed my name..used old english as the font and i printed it backwards.
The only problem i had was the black paint cracking the red paint around the edges..but nothing really bad and you cant really see it..only if you are up close..
it cost me all of 23 dollars...
but the "rubber" is very expensive....the two feet of rubber is about 40.00

IF i was to get a brand new tank i would do it differently. I would do a vinyl wrap...i have a cousin that does it.

Not to derail, but I was wondering if that was rubber. My dad did this for a living as well. He bought the business from my grandfather. Everything was done by hand with stencils- no plotters, cutters, etc. I did a little bit myself, but it wasn't my thing.

the 4000 will be split to both tanks so each tank will get 2000 gph.
i have 4 pumps now doing over 2000 and they are the same pumps that was driving my 125.

the only problem i am having with my plumbing is i didnt tighten my bulkhead down good enough so i have shut my tank down and tightened it down and ran some sealant around the edges and i am now waiting for it to dry..
it works really good to be honest..its got a 6" drop at 4' and its a lot quieter then the 125.
in the over flow box i have dense, semi dense sponges and the fliter media..i have the dense up against the holes then the semi dense surrounding them with the floss on top...no noise. But i do agree with peter about getting clogged so i will be checking it every morning and i will be taking the floss out altogether this weekend.

No derail at all..
yeah..the shop i run has been in business since the 60's and we still have the press and letter casts but i have never used them.
i can understand about it not being your thing..its not for everyone..its a hard job but the benefits are amazing.
To see the looks in familys faces is priceless. Its the last gift to their loved ones. It means everything.
I do 3d work as well..and i love doing that.

The down side is doing them for children..
..and that my mortality is slapped in my face everyday...
there really are two dates that mean anything to a person..birthday date and death date..

This is why I love plumming so much. It's just like fish. What works for some doesn't work for everyone. I can never seem to get the flow through PVC that everyone else gets.

IF I tried that there would be water on the floor......

Glad it works for you though......

What kind of pumps are you using on it?

Thanks a lot..
my pumps are:
Viaaqua1300 doing 370 gph.
next is a petco and it does 225....i thought it did 375.
CA2200 doing 850 gph.
and one i got off of Bravehart that does 750. it doesnt have a cover with the name..and the back just has amps/volts...but it pushes my water better then the CA2200..
i can take a picture of it if you want..

so total gph is 2195

I don't want to derail your thread, or want you to feel like I'm knit picking, but don't accept what's printed on the box as fact. A simple search of your big pump reveals a guy on wet web media that tested his and it did a whopping 325 GPH with only a single 90 in the return and 4' of head.

I don't doubt what you have for pumps, I doubt that they actually do what they say.

None of it really matters as long as the filter works, I just thought I might be able to help you avoid another 5am phone call when you decide to put a real pump on that thing.

i dont think they are 100% either..but its all i can go by..
i will install two valves on both returns to make sure they dont over flow..
