Well the wife is out of town and I am waiting for all my CO2 stuff to come in the mail. To say the least I was bored and at walmart today and saw they had huge Pothos on sale so I bought 1 plant and 2 clear suction cup shower corner holders. I also bought some cable and turnbuckles from home depot so I could hang my light fixture from the ceiling (it was resting on the tank).

This is more of an experiment more than anything. I have high nitrates and am hoping the plant can help bring things under control. I'm not sure if aesthetically I like the results but we will see what impact it has on nitrates. If it works well I will scape it a bit nicer:

In my low-tech experience w/o fertilizer, pothos quickly use up all available nutrients and fully immersed species will starve. I can't even grow elodea or hornwort in tanks I've put pothos on. But my fish are healthy so I'm happy. You, on the other hand, might not enjoy watching your jungle wither...

I dose with KH2PO4, K2SO4 and flourish comp. and have KNO3 to dose once the nitrates are under control.

Guys, it hasnt even been one day.

OP, just curious, I've been referring to these setups as "little shop of horrors" tanks for a bit, did you happen to see me say something or did you come up with it on your own? Either way, that's really what they remind me of! :D

i remember reading this thread, or one amazingly similar several months ago... when i searched for this thread i'm fairly certain it had different dates on it. i may be mistaken, but i think this is an old thread.

Yes I was beating you to the punch! Like I said I'm not sure if I like it with the pothos hanging off the side but if it works that's good and I will scape things a bit. It is also providing shade for my anubias and java ferns which is good. The kuhli loaches love it and are all twisted up in thr roots and the glowfish were sleeping in the pot last night.

And also yes its only been 1 day and I will measure nitrates every day this week to see the trend.

That is a lot of pothos!

I put in some 5 pieces of 2 foot bamboo, a spider plant "baby" and 2 potho plants and my nitrates are always between 0 and 5ppm.

With that amount of pothos, I imagine you will always be at zero.

I like the look of plants coming out of the tank :)
