SO it's either the GT, convict, fm, pleco combo.
Please choose all these fish as the same sex. If they are all females, great, if all males, great. But if there is for example, a Con and a FM who have different genders, expect fry and a catastrophe. If I were you, I'd up the filtration and add a few more fish. How dense is this tank really planted? I've seen people claim that a single bushy plant in the centre of a bare tank is a planted tank.

It is not densely planted at all, about 12 plants, along the back and sides.

I think I am going to wait until I can have a bigger tank for a g.t. I found some great cichlid suggestions on another site, so I am either going with:

pair black calvus (love the looks of these guys!), 6 blue flash, neolamprologus buescheri, pair lemon cichlids, and maybe a bristlenose pleco. I think this will be a little bit easier variety of cichlids, since I am completely new to fishkeeping:D

Although I am kind of considering a Jack Dempsey, firemouth, and convict.

you can always swing between a JD and a GT

but i like your other option too
the africans will look great with a nice rock setup tank
most of the time chiclids are easy fishkeeping unless you have an oscar with real bad eating habits(messy eaters)

I have had a convict and a Green Terror in the same tank for over a year and they don't seem to have any problems at all. 55 gallon tank with just a few pieces of driftwood and rock.

I would do a severum instead of a con. Cons can be way too aggressive.

Plus all the GT I have had have been very passive, and thats why I would recommend a more peaceful cichlid like a severum.

We have a tank of True Green Terrors (rivulatus) and they are much less aggressive than the gold saums usually sold as GT's. They are a great looking fish and a good choice if you can find them. Petsmart has some silver saums labled as Riv's but as usual the lables are wrong.

I've got a quick question for you guys, it in a way, relates to this thread.
So, I've got a 55 and wanna do the JD, GT, Con thing. Problem is the JD and GT are about 1-2'' just big enough that I can easily tell what they are... But the con I plan to get is atleast 6 1/2'' and has a HUGE KOK, probably the biggest con I've ever seen looks like a barred midas.

Do you think the con would mess with the JD and GT? I meen, I can always just buy a 1-2'' pink con at the LFS were I plan to buy the JD/GT as they have them in the same tank and theres one male pink that already has a decent sized hump.

Thoughts?

My LFS (very reliable, very helpful- explained cycling, etc to me- only sells fish) has baby green terrors that are sooo cute.. they also have baby j.d. and baby convicts- not sure about the firemouths....

Can I put a G.T. and a J.D. together in a 55?

Youre LFS sounds same to mine, Little 1'' GT's, Cons, JDs, and other cichlids.

I've seen JD/GT together in a 55 before, and its what I plan to do...
