Recently ive been reading about how if you have a ray you should have a in-line heater or at least a guard on your heater. I took it into consideration but didnt act on it right away because im kinda low on money. This morning i woke up to see a little bit of peeling on his skin, i thought oh no he must have got burnt but it didnt look to bad untill i saw a flap of his skin flop up to reveal the true horror that is down to bare flesh and looks pretty nasty. Hes been acting fine and eating well still, i put some salt and melafix in there and ordered a rena smartfilter. Just thought id vent and let you guys know, i really feal bad for the guy and hope he lives. Maybe ill get some pics but i can barey handle looking at it. - Holmes

Post pics, when I had rays my male got burned pretty good before I built gaurds. He came out just fine with out salt or meds.

its looking a little bit better, everything is just about peeled off so it can start healing up, i have a feeling he will pull through but im still very worried. Im goin to bed but ill post up some pics tomorrow, hopefully ill be able to track the recovery on here to help other people not make the same mistake.

we learn from our mistakes.

i would do a small waterchange every day until it gets somewhat better.

he'll be fine, their tough

They don't exist here. They don't even exist online here. Only Europe has them. I tried ordering them multiple times and they wouldn't even ship them here.

Heres what you can do. Take the tube used for gravel vacuuming and cut 2 horixontal slits that are wide enough to fit the suction cup holders through with a hacksaw (get a big tube, I think I used one that came with a rena canister filter or something it was wider and stiffer than my other one). then take a lighter and heat the plastic in between for a little bit, dont catch it on fire, but if its black thats alright you can wash it off. And while its still weak and flexible take a hobby knife and make the last 2 cuts to make a horizontal rectangle.

Do this again a little higher up on the tube and the shove the suction cup holder through the holes and slide the heater in. You can adjust it so it only protects the bottom half if you have a huge heater, but mine worked to cover about 3/4s.

Good luck, and I hope your ray heals well.

Well hes still eating good and acting alright, but it looks really bad... its on top right where his gills are and on one side you can see right into his red gills and watch them move when he breathes, i took a couple pics but not sure if they turned out to well... ill upload them to my computer after classes.

And i dont even wanna mess with a heater guard im just gonna use the rena smartheater as a in-line heater on my xp3. Im keeping my fingers crossed for my little retic, he seems to have allot of heart.
