I spawned my Ghost knife!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
:arapaimag:stingray::cool-1::icon_naruto10::clapI dream of a day when all bgk's are captive bred. This is a step in the right direction but we got a long way to go. Congrats

more eggs 2 days a go. few of the eggs are still there. some still transparent with centre turning white. others are fully white (so far all the ones that turns white are goners :(
going shopping for gears, possibly an corner air filter as i have had reports from aquarium owners that they found frys there...???
well keep you guys up to date. can't wait for the first wriggler :)

hmm only 2 eggs left but not looking good. it's solid white ready to crumble like powder :(

good news (well ok news), they did it during the day today.
came home and about a dozen eggs.

added more filters, temps good. water looks clean so fingerscrossed for the 5th time! lol

"TobiasF." There is a thread on the sexing of the BGK, but sux => http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139894

Monroser wrote this:
Here's what I learned from the article that fourty2 put forward and it works with the stuff that Aqua Sanctuary had to say:
1. She has very tiny eyes. (so tiny I am always amazed at how tiny they
are) Allegedly the female's eyes are tiny and are opaque while the male's are a little bit larger and are black. Her eyes are so small that they are like dots.
2. Her eyes are situated forward on her head.
3. Her head is not very broad.

etc.

What pisses me off is, that I have not come across anyone confirming those indicators (especially the eye color) by anyone who actually owns or had they BGK spawn including the owner of this thread (unless I've missed it somehow) :duh:
Photos pointing out the differences one could use as a refernce are missing including web-pages:nilly:

Surely having a look at a dozen photos with positively identified specimens would help everyone.
I have a god photo of one of my BGK, but I am not able to upload photos here or get a gallery going :WTF:
Please let me know the link that explains how to do the gallery & get permission @ MFK :grinno:

ogrim, when i first started the breeding project, i read that post and thus went on aquariums to check out the stocks :)
I can tell you they are indeed correct however, it's not noticeable unless you have a trained eyes.
what is noticeable for me, POT Belly under their chin. males don't have it.

one other thing, males face reminds me of the Alien face (from the movie), while female is definitely cuter/smiling puppy.

However when I first started I couldn't tell the diff.
I'll take proper photoes of my males/females and post it soon (as soon as I can be bothered! lol).

PS. also since i have the gold ghost knife (faded/transparent brown colour), it's much easier to see the facial structures. black ones are harder to see the facial differences.

Thaks ahead "gianniz" some photos for reference would be G8 :headbang2
I could put the pic's in our local forum as well for others to see!
I've been to shops to spot some larger BGK's to look at & searched a fair bit online for ino on BGK as well. Even tough they are pretty much all black they are an awesome & amazing fish

Here are two of my BGK @ 6" & 10" feeding before the plants got put in the tank =>
