The eggs are probably dying because you don't do water changes. The nitrates are probably to high.

Thanks for the photos! I have saved the lot, but now that I have seen what a Male BGK looks like for sure, I can see I got two females
I see exactly what you mean by the head shape & the pot belly

Here in Victoria (Melbourne AU) the LFS mainly sell juvenile BGK's. However I will try swap or buy a male BGK trough the local forum. I have seen one 12" BGK in one of the LFS here yesterday. I recon it's a male, but it's not for sale & I don't think they do STUD duties
The poor 12" male is stuck in a bow tank around 40gal or 150liters with other fish...
Here is my 8" Female BGK, I have not been able to get a good shot at the 10" girl, but she looks about the same

The 8" BGK girl seems to be a darker black in shade than the 10" BGK girl & the eyes are clear black instead of opaque like on the 10" girl. I've optained both in the last couple of months & the opaque eyes must be due to previous water conditions or due to inadequate diet. Will see if it clears up.

made a new breeding trap and they spawn in it, next day they ate it all except for the one they can't reach

next time, i'm going to take the fish out of the tank.
