I think I got fooled on a ebjd

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You should give more details about your tank/other fish/lighting.
Check your water chemistry.....ammonia'nitrites/nitrates.
If they are all ok..............all fish need time to settle in.
* My JDs do not like a lot of light...... FWIW.

400l tank, low lighting, sand substrate, 2000lph external filter
10 assorted tetras
4 inch red tail shark
2, 3 inch gold saum (gt) added today and eating like pigs

Water change day tomorrow (30% weekly) will check levels after the water change

Trying to feed cichlid gold medium floating, I have also tried squashing out the air so they sink to him. He has picked up and spat out but not eaten.

Well since your water chemistry is OK, I would say the only other issue may be your G.T.s
From what I read........ these are very aggressive fish. So you may want to watch how they interact with your JD.
Perhaps others who own G.T.s will give you more info.

It isn't out of the ordinary for a large fish to take some time to settle in when being added to an established tank. Give it some more time to settle in. I've never seen a healthy fish starve it self to death.

With respect to BGJD's, they will not appear different than a normal gene JD. The whole "mine has more blue than normal" is something you are reading into the fish. The isn't a physical difference. While you may have a fish that has better color than others, this isn't an indication of it being a BGJD. Additionally, if you didn't buy it from a respected dealer who knows what they are doing with their fish, there is no way to tell. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but a seller may tell you what you want to hear to sell the fish. Just my opinion. BTW, your fish is good looking and you shouldn't like it any more or less because it is supposedly a BG. Unless you have another BG or an EB to breed it with, what's the point?

My 5" Ebjd looked just like a normal one when I bought him except right in the middle of his body he more blue than any other jd I've seen but I wasn't convinced. I bought it anyways and it took about two weeks now there is no doubt it's an Ebjd he colored up real good. Completely blue now. It must have been stressed out or didn't like the tiny tank it was in. Shows that color can change depending on a lot of factors and an Ebjd can look like a normal one when stressed.
