Okay, so this lady posts on CL that she had a 100 gallon "aquarium" for sale that she had been keeping her bearded dragon in until recently. So I drove the hour out to her house through $6 in toll roads to look at it and likely pick it up. I get there and she has a great looking tank that isn't really long and is really deep, which is great because I have a severum that is going to get roughly 12" long and an 18" deep tank is fantastic. The top portion was unusual looking, but I didn't think much of it. Well I got it home (dimensions are 36"l x 18"d x 17"h) and I notice a tag in the bottom that says if you fill it more than half way with water, the top may "warp". It has the brand name of Critter Cage and the glass is either 3/16" or 1/4" thick. It's hard to tell since my measuring tape is hard to read.

Can this tank be used for an aquarium or did I get hosed big time?

You got hosed - but it wasn't her fault. But, that is a 35 or 40 gallon tank, not a 100 gallon tank. The weird top, is so that a screen cover can slide through and "lock."

its a reptile cage... if you fill it all the way up you will probably end up regretting it..

You literally cheated yourself. I've bought hundreds of used tanks. In all transactions I brought along a tape measure and a calculator to ensure I was getting the volume I was going to pay for.
