Added sand to my 75 today and now im losing dither fish and my RD is sitting in the bottom corner not moving. Found out my test kit went bad so I cant test water till morning. Any suggestions?

hello fellow Minnesotan and not to much you can do until you can test the water. whens the last time he ate, how big is he, how are you "losing" the dithers?

Hes 12-13 inches. About an hour after I put everyone back in the tank one of my danio dithers was floating, I cant see the other because the water is so cloudy. I'm thinking it might of been temperature shock because now he is moving around. I only had a floating thermometer because the cat destroyed the digital one so the 75 was probably a few degrees cooler then the 29 i had him in when i switched out the substrate.

Hope that you post some better news in the morning.

How long has the tank been set up and running with fish in it?

when i switched the substrate I changed all the water. The filters are over a year established and I have done 100% changes before with no problems

Did you dechlor the water?

If you didn't, it may have killed off a decent amount of your bio causing it to cycle again.

Don't you think he's a bit big for a 75?

If his water went 5-10 degrees down to 75 I don't see that putting him in any kind of shock due to temp. I think there may be some other cause. But even at 75 it is not cold to him.

I understand that you have did 100pct water changes before but if that water was not dechlorinated and it went thru that filter all of a sudden it could still practically wipe out the bio in the filter.
