I think im losing my Red Devil

Pardon me I thought you said that the water was 75.

OK the whole story... (I have a 75 with my RD and a few dithers. I run and fluval 405 and an AC 110. This tank has been established 2 years with no water quality issues. I used to check religiously but with the amount of hours I work and the my near perfect water quality I kinda stopped checking and my test kit has gone bad over the last 6 months.) I had my 75 bare bottom and didn't like it so I bought 50 pounds of play sand from home depot. I filled the 29 with water from the established 75 and moved both filters with the fish to the 29. I spent all afternoon rinsing the sand the added it and refilled the 75. I waited like 2 hours added the AC 110 and then moved the fish over like 2o minutes later with the fluval 405. Here is where I messed up.I forgot to de-chlorinate till like 20 minutes after I added the fish and other filter. Withing an hour i lost 2 dithers and the RD was laying on the sand not moving much. Now he is moving around but he isn't as aggressive as normal. I am going to go buy a new test kit first thing in the morning and monitor and change water till the tank recycles. Is this a good plan. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a fine plan. Chances are some of the bio died, and there is some ammonia going on. Plus, the fish is probably stressed from going from a 75 to a 20 and then back again.

Dechlor always. Add dechlor before water.. you should always remember that.

yeah sounds to me that you got some ammonia and stress. you have any stress coat? that would probably help

I know, adding dechlor is fish keeping 101 and I forgot. I just hope he makes it and doesn't suffer from my mistake. He is a beautiful fish and I am super excited about my new aquascaping, it would be a shame if he didn't get to enjoy it because of my carelessness. My fish means as much to me as my kitty and beagle so its really going to suck if i lose this beautiful beast.

hm funny me and you have the same post number and live in minnesota and love beagles haha. and yeah not much more we can do but to wait awesome looking fish btw

He is pounding glass, being his normal aggressive self. I am thinking more and more it was a temp issue? I have only been keeping two years so i only know the basics but he bounced back quick once the temp got back to his normal 78- 80 temp.

That definitely could have been a factor. Sounds like he's doing better if he's acting like that. Keep an eye on him and make sure to treat your water. :)

I doubt it has much to do with you killing off your bio. It wouldn't show so quickly. What you probably did was stress the fish by moving them and (I assume you didn't acclimate) shocked them with the 100 pct water change. Its good to hear that your RD has bounced back.
