power strips are NOT meant for continual usage..most say so and some say NOT FOR USE WITH AQUARIUMS ...power strips should also be inspected MONTHLY for signs of over heating burn marks etc..they will ,not might, will burn your house down if not inspected...same with extension cords..there meant for TEMPORARY usage..meaning a couple hours..if you own your home for christ sake spend $50 and direct wire GFI outlets to your tank...if you rent, well, buy a house lol..

PS if you say BAH ive used em for years, think about how far you've pushed your luck

im writing this in the hope that at least 1 person will look under tank and inspect there power strips

I admit i use an extension cord on my tank, but i also check them twice a day, once when i turn my lights on, and once when i turn my lights off... plus i try and make sure never to over load the boards, as well as make sure the extension cord has a fuse in it as well..

I have a GFCI connected to power strip. And the 250W heater and water pump and FX5 plug into it. It was fine until i plugged my 220W light fixture to it . Bump, my GFCI will tap .
So what i did wrong? Should i plug my 220W light to a different outlet ?
