Hi guys, I have a Texas cichlid that is pushing 2 inches that seems to be showing signs of Fish Tuberculosis. He is currently in a 55 gallon tank with two 1.5 inch breidohri's. There is no aggression in this tank so far. The temp is kept between 75-80 degrees. I do a 70% water change and deep clean followed by a 20% water change a few days after every week. The water conditions are perfect, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrates and 0 nitrites. I feed them Omega One Super Color Flakes, spirulina flakes, freeze dried Blood worms, and NLS small sinking pellets. I alternate between the color flakes and the spirulina flakes with a pinch of dried blood worms every other day. I feed the NLS pellets once a week because they don't seem to care so much for them.

For filtration I have a emperor 400 that does the job pretty well. I also have 3 mystery snails and a pleco that help keep the tank in nice shape.

I purchased the Texas about one month ago that had a slight shrunken stomach. I thought it was stress or poor diet that was causing this that would be solved once in a larger tank and well cared for. It still has the shrunken stomach and doesn't have the same appetite as the other two fish. He doesn't eat as much flake food but will eat more blood worms. He does seem a bit stressed but is really active. I am not sure what to do because i do not want my other two fish to contract this as well.

If it is Fish does have TB what are my options? I am sorry but i do not have a pic on hand.

Mycobacteriosis is tough. Antibiotics don't always work because the strains of bacteria associated with it have built up a resistance. I would try freezedried krill soaked in a little water and metronidazole. Kanaplax by seachem may work, i know there's a frozen food line called dr. G's that comes premedicated with anti bacterial and parasitic meds. May wanna try that if he doesnt accept the krill. You may want to consider vitamin c and competitive exclusion probiotics as well. The probiotucs may out compete the mycobateria for available nutrients and surface area within the fish, thus lowering bacterial count.

Based off of my description do you think it is fish TB? if so, I believe he is to small for the krill. Would there be alternatives that I could use? like plankton? Also, could this infection spread to the rest of the tank?

Thank you.

It could be but it could also potentially be an internal parasite. Is the waste clear/ white-ish or dark brown? May try praziquantel in food with metronidazole, the metro is an antibiotic an an expellant of sorts. The praziquantel with kill a parasite and the metro will help for sexondary infections and expell the leftovers. If it mycobacteria or TB then I'd try what i mentioned earlier. Try the FD plankton if krill's too large, whatever he takes will work. Maybe try the pellet too, pellets and FD foods are good for medictions beause theyre very absorbent.

If i was to soak some pellets, blood worms or plankton, could it have a harmful effect on my other fish in the tank?
