i think my bullhead is dying! (pic)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hes about the same size as the bullhead

and i have a red devil in a tank all by her self could i put the lace in there ... or do you think the RD would just throw a fit and kill it... shes a *****

I wouldn't risk putting the lace cat with a red devil, especially if it's a mean red devil. As long as your bullhead is separated from the lace cat then I think your fine. If possible, set up a hospital tank for the bullhead to be alone in for a little while, that way there is no competition for food.

UPDATE

ok so my bullhead has been acting and eating better but i turned the light on to look at its sore up close and its bigger now...

i dont know if its just healing or if its not and getting worse....

Salt will not help this bullhead, but probably exacerbate it's condition. Bullheads are tough fish, and it should heal fine if he's in his own hospital tank and the water is kept pristine. Some live foods like earthworms would help, give him a cave to hide in, like a piece of pvc pipe. Keep the temps cool, don't raise them as he is a temperate fish, and raising temps has the effect of reducing the dissolved oxygen levels, which could stress the fish further. Keep him in a dark tank, in a low traffic area. In my experience with bullheads, they are most comfortable when you can't see them!

Melafix is amazing stuff, and can be used with all fish unless i'm mistaken? I've used it on elephantnose and they were absolutely fine. I had a friend who used it on his tongue peircing that got infected. Healed it very fast haha!
