i think my Columbian Sharks are going to have Babies...

For the past three weeks i have noticed the sharks breeding ... now for the past 9 days one of them is not eating... holding her/his mouth almost closed with a space between the lips .. i have heard they are mouth brooders... so now i am really excited putting two and two together... one big problem i am facing if this is indeed the reason for the fish going off food then there is nothing stopping the other parent from eating the fry as soon as they are spit from the parents mouth.. so i am thinking of putting up a divider between the two.. putting small little caves for baby catfish to hide...i just do not know what else to do.. anyone have any ideas..i cannot separate into a different tank as this is full marine tank and the only set up i have for brackish fish.... wow i would be the first one to have babies in captivity... Columbian SharkCatFish had the eggs... i never saw eggs.. must have put them in the mouth right away.... i will get some pics later...

I shouldnt have taken the eggs out, but I don't think the male is big enough to keep them in his mouth which is why he ate them.

well not confirmed yet but sure as heck i think so...haha.. now how much did you find out about the length of time the Dad broods them in his mouth.. is that a known fact that it is the dad ..just as in the arowana... ? do you think the divider way is the way to go.. i hate upsetting them... but the one that eats is always following after the one holding... so i consider this a kind of harrassment..

i tried to put a divider in but they went crazzzzzy... i don't want to upset them so much....... so instead i added a few little hiding places and plastic plants.... if there are babies.... then i want to save at least one.....

I remember when I first saw Breakfast getting the fins and chasing the other around for like 2 days, I tried a divider...Not a good idea haha they HATE being disturbed.

And I have no idea about how long the dad mouth broods them. And have you seen any eggs inside his mouth? Because their eggs are actually kinda big. So if there are eggs you should be able to see them.

I can't wait for results!

By the way, how big are they from tip of the tail to mouth? They look soo much bigger than mine, but mine are around 12" D:

they are about 14 inches.. although they never stand still long enough to accurately measure... i have looked into the mouth but i see nothing but there is something there that blocks you from looking.. i am going nuts thinking about it.. but i say this is the only thing it could be.. i offered shrimp again tonight.. never even looks at any food.. the other one gobbles up everything.. and you know these guys eat.. so unless something is wrong with it.. this has to be the reason.. because he is still very active and otherwise normal..they may be located way back in the throat.. mouth is always like this.. just a wait and see. I have a house and plants set up in corner.. if there are babies..even saving just one would be awesome
