I think my cycle is done?

Bleeding, pufferpunk correctly recited the nitrogen cycle.

Listen to Wolf3101, smaller water changes and if he steers you wrong I'll club him with a mullet .

I've been doing this stuff since dirt was new, I know what I'm talking about:nilly:.

Oh ya ...Patience :D.

This is great for a site like this where someone would want to put a monster fish right away into a new tank.

BIO-Spira does NOT produce an Instant Cycle, It takes a MINIMUM of TWO days for the bacteria to adhere and reproduce to a level to satisfactory colonize the filter media.

Someone who's "been in the biz for a very long time & I know what works & what is bunk" knows that.

Where did this come from?

I do believe that it does instant cycle a tank if kept properly (refrigerated) from production to the tank. I am afraid that unless ordered from a reputable place (like DFS) this does not always happen. This is for a newly set up tank, not a crashed system.

It's good to have beliefs, I have a few myself. But facts are what we use here and if the bacteria are not attached to the filter media then they will not be able to properly go forth and reproduce / multiply and prosper.

Now before we get to the point of derailing Bleeding's fine thread, let's wait and see how his tank is doing.

1 more comment on that--I pour the product directly into the filter, not in the tank.

The nitrogen cycle is an on-going process... it's incorrect to ever think of it as DONE or complete. All cycling really does is to establish the start of the cycle in your tank.

Changes in bio-load either up or down constantly effect the process. In this respect..it's better to say that a tanks SAFE rather than completely cycled. Yes you CAN in an emergancy produce a new aquarium thats safe for fish..generally using established media but it's incorrect to call it instantly cycled...this tank will STILL continue to cycle until reaching a stable level.

True, especially if you add more fish.

:iagree:, with the filter off and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then start it back up, say a little prayer to the filter gods and take a nap.

I need a nap after this...
