ok so i did my water tests for about a little over a month now, and the levels climbed, and then slowly dropped, right now they are at 0ppm for everything, and ph is 8.8, what should ph be and what should i use as filter media in my fluval filter, right now i have bio max, carbon and filter floss.

juts use bio balls, bio rings or LR rublle..

pH should be between 8.0 and 8.3

whats the ph of your replacement water?? Buffers usually work better when raising pH rather then lowering it. They make liquid chemicals that you can use, but i wouldnt suggest them. no personal experience though.

Wow... I feel kind of sorry for the eel. Especially since the tank is barely cycled.
Well good luck with him.
I would have put in a smaller fish to start, as it would have less of a bioload on the tank.
Hopefully, you have enough live rock in the tank to offset the amount of waste that the eel can produce.
Otherwise you might be looking at a large ammonia spike that can quite possibly kill off any inhabitants within the tank. Start doing small water changes every other day to see if you can get the PH to level out. Test water daily.

by replacement water i mean whatever water he uses to fill his tank back up after a water change. Now if your using RO water which i recommend even for a FO tank, then you PH will start low, and can be raised with buffers. Sometimes it will raise on its own with the mixture of salt and what not. I recommend finding a home for the eel until the tank is 100% cycled and your absolutely sure of that.

I have this article that I would really like you to spend some time reading, and assessing your tank at the same time. This will help you figure out any possible cause to high pH or if its an error as has been mentioned in the article. This same author of the article has several other articles on fish compatibility and needs, general aquarium chemistry, lighting requirements, coral requirements, and the list goes on. Needless to say, this guy should be added as a favorite on your Internet so if you ever have a question, he will most likely have an answer.

i test the water daily, and i change the water frequently, i am going to be getting my own ro unit in the next week or so, and as far as live rock is concerned i have 2 fluval 405 filters on it.
