i test the water daily, and i change the water frequently, i am going to be getting my own ro unit in the next week or so, and as far as live rock is concerned i have 2 fluval 405 filters on it.

without the tank being cycled the filter are, more or less, worthless

where not arguing that the tank is cycled, but whether its stable, Which when adding fish, is equally as important to being cycled or not. The article that I posted will help with your pH issue, and again maybe it is because the tank is not stable.

Well if he had stated that he was getting swinging changes in parameters, then we would have already known that he has a tank that was not properly cycled.

I'm sorry to say, but as much information is at your fingertips and assistance always at the ready. Yet you feel that you need to rush into things and want to drop a fish immediately, the only words that I have to say is.... good luck.
Hopefully everything turns out well with the tank, and the eel does not suffer too much.

Oh and BTW... the fluval filters and the like are a poor means of filtration for SW tanks. You should have done some research on canister filters.

ok well i brought the eel back, and i just bought a bio cube, going to start out small for now, the 90 will be a new tank for my piranhas. any one have any experience with the cubes

That's great!
Start from a large to a smaller one.
Now you need to worry more about the tank.
Way to do research!!!

At least the biocube will have a somewhat better filtration system then what you had going in your other tank.

Well then... time to start it all over again.
Now.... 6-8 weeks no fishies.
:)

Remember that just because live rock is in the tank, you still need time for the bacteria to regenerate itself from any die off. You also want time to make sure that the filter in the tank also has bacteria in it.

Good signs that your tank is on its way to being fully cycled is that you have pods thriving and eating, scurrying around. If you don't have many by 6-8 weeks there is a big problem.

Good choice

I have a 29 gallon biocube..
If given the choice to do it all over again I would get a JBJ nano or a red sea max..
I've had a few problems with the light fans and filter pump, but if you're a handy man these aren't even problems

Finnex makes some good tanks...

And an eclipse lid on like a 30 or so gallon tank make a cheaper alternatve for a FO or FOWLR
