I thought gars were predators?Not mine!

i've never fed FL/spotted feeders, but it's pretty aggressive at feeding time. it only eats food from the bottom, though, even shrimp pellets.

Mine is the opposite, ignores anything that sinks (though he would take feeders).

Something I've noticed...my gar doesn't seem to like activity and stress at all. When I feed the fish, if the other fish in the tank are going aggressively for the food the gar hangs back until they're done; a lot of activity seems to irritate him and he avoids it when he can.

Hi guys thanks for the replies,

Ive tried all kinds of pellets and prawn etc etc but all he will eat are mealworms occasionally and bloodworm,anything else he just ignores.

eventually they got smart and started eating the food quick.

mine was the opposite of yours.
it would fight all the other fish to get to the food. haha

I think my gar is a bit of a wimp to be honest,hes useless at finding food as i said earlier in the post,i expected him to grow pretty quickly but he sure aint doing that?

I also had my doubts about its hunting skills initially, they are very very crafty hunters don't be fooled by his aloof behavior.
