so i was visiting a friend in north jersey that just purchased a home with his wife and 3 kids. He"s also into to fish so i said to him "did you scout the area for pet stores"? his response was no. So we got in my truck and put in "pet stores" into the navigation and a place called "fish fish fish" came up so off we went. When we arrived we saw about 300 tanks with wall to wall fish with EXTREMELY low prices. prices for cichlids at 5inches were like 2 dollars arowannas at 6inches for $15. i cant remember all the low prices cause I was so excited i felt woozy lol. anyway we had the guy (who didnt speak any english) bag up about $200 worth of fish we had about 10 -12 fish apiece. So we go to pay excited like we was fat kids in a bakery. we get to checkout and the manager says "card please" and i ask what card is he talking about cause im paying cash and then he says "oh no this is a warehouse for pet stores only not open to the public. i thought about running out the door fish in hand but i finally gave them back. then i thought "looking at the price that our lfs charge us compared to the prices THEY pay for it, we are getting robbed big time" i may look into getting a license to sell fish so i can buy them wholesale

man, that'd be like a sucker punch to the gonads lol.
ive been in one of those. its pretty crazy how dirt cheap everything is.

That has gotta suck... finding a whole host of amazing fish for cheap prices, getting them all bagged then to realize that you can't buy them coz you don't have a "card"...

In a way, i'm surprised you didn't try and ask them to sell it to you any way, since they were all bagged and all...

Hell yeah that's what I woulda done.....you gotta kinda get them to know you are cool, like when the rastafareans don't know you at the trees spot you know.

i would have cried...

spoken in Spanish if the guy was Hispanic (they tend to be nicer to you) im peruvian

then attempted to bribe them

then if all else failed I would have given back the fish crying...

I would definitely get a fish sale license cant be that hard to obtain

^Lol I feel ya on the rastas, usually Washington Square park.

I live in north NJ myself and was reading the post all excited, I thought I knew all the spots. Sorry to hear how it worked out for you. If you're in NNJ again- try Absolutely Fish in Clifton or The Shark Aquarium in Hillside. You won't find wholesale prices but you'll find some cool/rare fish and won't be disappointed.

So uh, who's working on the counterfeit "cards"? I'm in. :)

It's sad you had to go through that experience with the wholesaler like that. It's happened to me a couple of times but in a different venue. I like your idea of getting your wholesaler's purchase license card. Keep us informed on how that endeavor works out for you.

just reading that, i dropped my shoulders for you

... this might be kinda random but I actually had a dream about this. i was buying fish and they wouldn't let me take them then this random guy came up and Gave me a card
probably cause I read this after being in a concert in NY it affected my brain
