my big common i had (18") used to chase my piranhas for a tilapia fillet and beat them for it. they will eat just about anything i think, some species arent as open to foods, but i know my common would even eat live feeders that swam close enough

There are so many species of "pleco's". Their diets range from highly carnivorous to vegetarian, to wood eaters and many more. Your G. gibbiceps will gladly eat meaty foods, and they should be offered to him on a regular basis.

That's a Sailfin Pleco, they are most certainly omnivores and love nothing better than a bit of shrimp or beefheart. Heck my guy reduced a fully grown tiger barb to a skeleton overnight.

But you should be feeding them mostly vege based diet as it's better for their digestive system. Some meaty food occasionally is a good thing for them though.

He is pretty cool. He likes freeze dried blood worms. He will float on his back and eat them off the surface of the water.

They're scavengers honestly, they will eat anything they can get their hands on.The one I have still, ate feeders that were dying, which were minnows.

This is my guy stealing my Oscar's floating pellets.

What the pic doesn't show is how he was batting the Oscar out of the way with his pectoral fin. :grinno:
