I thought the DC12000 was designed to run submerged only. What cools it? Is the motor hot to touch? How long has it been running that way?

It's perfectly cool to the touch. The guys that had the set up before had it running exactly like this for over a year. But you've got me worried now.... I'll definitely do more research.
Finally up and running!
Still needs some plumbing adjustments and silencing plus a bit more cleaning. Waiting on the digital salt meter I ordered to come in this week so I can make sure it's all out of there before I add the catfish. All in all, we're almost there

Latest update: Got the refugium about 70% completed. Still need to add substrate and plants plus more media. But those are the easy steps.
Full and just about ready for fish. Just waiting on the temp to reach ~78F.
Also, that red circle is a betta...for scale. I wanted to see how it would look. lol He's back in his regular 6.6g heavily planted walstad now.

I know...I didn't realize I'd feel bad about it until after I dropped him in and he was just SO happy and then I felt bad for having to take him back out.
