Cichlids (especially Oscars) like to chomp for a while. I'm guessing you thought it was choking. Also, don't over feed your Oscar. They are extremely messy fish and half the pellets will fall out of their gills (good thing we have plecos). Its really easy to want to overfeed, especially when you have the 'dog' of the fish world.
