Sorry Lupin, I wasn't trying to come off as angry. I was just making a fairly true statement, that others see as well. For the short time I've been here, I notice certain mods are in charge of certain areas, of which they may have greatly participated in prior to having "mod status". This is where I see some of the of leniency. Also, some forums like the sa/ca section has so much action and new threads it's nearly impossible to watch every post.

The reports are all anonymous. We do NOT give out the names of those who reported the problems. So why is it some of you are apprehensive to report?
And for the record, some of those problematic members you are possibly thinking about may have taken long breaks which would have appeared they remain members here until now when despite their past actions, to some of you, they should have been banned. All penalties have a system. We will suspend or expel when deemed necessary. The time length also takes its part in this system. From time to time, we offer second chances to redeem themselves however, abuse of this trust will lead them nowhere anymore.
If some of these members have been a problem for years assuming that their activity has always been regular, then, why am I not seeing further complaints and instead members take cudgels to defend their sides instead? That never resolves anything. If there was a number of complaints given to us, we would have taken action immediately and possibly the member's privileges terminated by this time already.

I'm happy to see this topic addressed. I stopped posting when I was criticized for a spelling error. And frankly was extremely put off by severe bullying of newbies. Who do these people think they are?
Things get a bit tough to moderate at times. Unfortunately, being a butthead is not always against the TOS. In many situations, all we can do is PM a cautionary message to 'tone things down'.
It's unfortunate that some members chose to leave instead of trying to keep the information flowing for the rest of the membership and helping the site community change the few problem posters to be more in line with what civil exchanges are expected to be.

To a large part I simply stopped posting up threads. Prefering to sit back do my fish thing and post up the odd comment here and there.
A thought for the person this thread refers to. Do not let the bully boys brow beat you into leaving, rather let them stick their feet so far down their throats that they come out their wazooo.
One thing I would like to see from the mods though is an explanation as to why a thread gets deleted. I recently had a thread deleted and there was no arguing nor disagreement nor flaming in the thread. Rather there was a decent discourse going on.
In pm the last person to post said this "Ah, dang. I thought it was a good thread too!"
I will not identify the person or the thread, but wanted to simply drop a thought for lupin since he is in this thread that telling a person why their thread got deleted in pm might be a good idea.
Now a ? for lupin.
What if the person who's post you are flagging is a mod. Do they have the power to simply hide the flagged post if they see it before other mods?
I ask this because I have had a ongoing issue with a mod on ac who seems to have hard on for me and always drops in on any thread I make to take a pot shot, with seeming impunity adding comments that have nothing to do with the thread. Yet when I flag his post nothing is ever done.
For example on a cooking thread I did. This person chose to slam my entire career as a chef based on a picture of a kitchen in a not for profit community center(not my kitchen but a kitchen I do volunteer chefing to raise funds for their community arts center) and his comments were left to stand.
Kind of funny to slam someone's career based on such criteria. Especially when I have chef'd by request for Charlize Theron, Canada's Olympic Syncronized Swim team, Federal Politicians etc... And yet this mod's comments and posts were left to stand thereby causing me to simply shake my head in disgust and drop the thread.
Since the subject of this thread is to cease with negativity. I would suggest that Mod's be held to a higher standard simply by the virtue that they are moderators and should be good examples of building and supporting threads not tearing them down.
Here I sit with 13 tanks over 1300g of active aquaria and I have for the most part stopped posting threads because of the negativity.
