The main obstacle in keeping big game fish is the tank size. A dorado is quite similar to a Brycon dentex, just bigger. I guess my question to you is, how sure are you that you are getting this massive aquarium? I saw in another thread, that you said your Mom was buying it for you. Does she have any idea how much it costs? If you live in North America, large tanks are quite expensive.

Actually, i live in asia. But, instead of dorado, i may accept brycons, if they are easier to keep. So plans may change, i may get a smaller sized aquarium, i just have to ask

Alright, i have talked to her and she said 100 percent sure that the pond is 3 meters, i have repeated this question so many times to her i think she is getting tired of it, so there you go, i hope this clears the dust ;)

Ah, I thought you might be in Asia, judging by when you post. That's great. Having a pond and not having to worry about heating it is a great advantage. Also, everything seems a lot more reasonably priced in Asia. You might as well get Dorado, if it's your dream fish.

Apologies for being sceptical. It's just that you sound kind of young (no offence) and over here an aquarium that size costs 5 figures and then you still have to add filtration and lighting. Now that you've clarified that your mom is putting in a pond, things add up. Good luck.

It's alright, actually i am young lol. I first saw dorado in my country in my fishing place in a growout tank along with 3 atlantic tarpon, and as time goes by i start getting interested in them and here i am. Right now there are 15 of them in a growout pond along with some indonesian datnoids. When i was fishing in the pond I hooked up with one, and i can clearly see a silver flash in the water shaking it's head, but it spat the hook. Anyways thanks for the information ! :)

Hmmmm i'll take brycon, but right now i can't have a tank enough to house even a dentex so how about hatchetfish ? What is the minimum tank dimensions for a single brycon dentex?
What size tank do you have right now so we can help suggest species for you to start of with? As far as minimum tank size. Seeing as they Gris to slightly over a foot. I'd say a 180g minimum or 6'x2' for a base footprint. Could probably get by with a 4'x2'. Could add flow in certain parts of the tank too.

I would recommend starting with some Silver Dollars. So that you get the hang of doing water changes and general maintenance. Depending on the species, they could eventually get big enough to be dithers for the dorado

In a few months i will have a 3 foot long, 2 foot wide, 2 foot tall tank
