BTW, I heard from lfs on my side that Paroon does have seasons for yoy supplies. I'm not sure how true though.
Gigas is the one banned. Big Paroon wild caught, is protected in Thailand, not sure about them being on the endangered list. The one we eat here is the id shark aka pangasius pangasius, just to clear things up.

I've only seen a hybrid of Hong Kong Cat + Paroon, not the Paroon itself

Paroons are not endangered but the US Wild life what ever they are called include them in with the gigas and are indeed banned to import. Talked to 3 importers from Thailand today. But if you find ones already in the US they aren't illegal to have. Also sometimes they get missed in with ID sharks. And some places can get "high fin sharks" (paroons). This is still sketchy and some places can cut the fins to makes them look like ID sharks and they grow back. Still sketchy. I am in contact with one place in Philly I think it was that is going to get it "high fin sharks" for me.
