I want a red-tailed shark for my new tank, need advice

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
would I have enough floor space for the fish? the tank is probably gonna be 24 long, 12 deep

Yes, that's plenty. they won't get past 2 inches each. I have about 15 in my 75... and and there's times I don't even see 1. Since they are schooling fish they will usually be close together anyways

okay, what kind of filter media should I usually have? Because I plan on just using the filter that comes with my starter set... I'm such a newb, so much to learn....

They may have used filter floss or ceramic rings or something.

For the shrimp, they will probably hide the majority of the time and might get eaten during their moult, but they're interesting and do a good clean up job. However there are different Palaemonetes species that are freshwater, brackish, or marine, and PetSmart/Petco tend to get different species in all under the name Ghost Shrimp, so its a crap shoot whether you're getting the correct species or not. And don't forget those tetras will need at least 4 conspecifics for each species, as they are schooling. :-) Have fun setting up your new tank!

wait the tetras are schooling???? So that changes a lot, I guess I need just one type of tetra then... so lets says I go with the red belly xrays I should pick up four and call it a day? Instead of grabbing the 3 different fish I wanted. Can I put 4 in at a time...
