I want an Endli

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A lower jaw bichir can open its mouth approx 99% of its bodies diameter it quite scary to see-Anne

Thanks Anne.
I'm trying to decide on what to get.

Here are my choices:

Polypterus weeksii 3.5-4", 6-7"
Polypterus congicus 6-7", 8-10"
Polypterus palmas buettikoferi 8-10"
Polypterus palmas palmas 8-10"
Polypterus endlicheri endlicheri Guinea 10-12", 14-15"

I'm thinking of just going with a 14-15" Endli endli and passing on the congicus. Maybe adding a palmas palmas as well?

Give me some advice.
They will be going in my 265 gallon tank-(7' x 2' x 2.5'). The inhabitants are:

2 Male jags
1 Vieja Argentea
1 Crenicichla Lenticulata
1 A Lyonsi

1 Weeksi
1 Ornate
1 Senagal

1 Striped Raphael
1 Bristlenose pleco

Should I just get the endli endli only??? or will 2 more polys be ok?

I'd drop the raphael and bristlenose, they are too small and will wind up as snacks sooner or later. I prefer congicus, but endi endi have bolder bands and could be considered more attractive. To appreciate congicus you really have to own one imo. I'd buy all the fish at 10" and grow them out. Get a bunch of endi's and 1 or 2 congicus...I wouldn't get any upper jaws. The more poly's the merrier. I have found that if you have only 2-5 poly's in a large tank you'll more than likely run into aggression issues. 6+ should spread/stop any aggression.

it might be tricky to get the proper amount of food to the polys with all the aggressive eaters you have.

I agree, I keep my poly's with cichlids. It's very difficult to get food to them, especially if you end up with a shy poly. I use a piece of 30" pvc to get food to my poly's, or I just drop some massivore and fish fillets in late at night.

now im excited! gl with those polys man!!!
