My local petstore just got these new gars, and I thought they'll be nice with my peacock bass. They are about 4-5 inches, and $25 each.

1. Do they usually hang around on the bottom? Don't they swim around?
2. My petstore said they eat live fish, but I'm hopping that they will eat pellets, and leave the lives for my bass to eat.
3. $25?
4. What kind of gars are these?

My longnose are the only gar I was unable to easily get eating pellets...I don't know if this is usual or not....

Osseus are no more difficult to get on prepared food as any other gar. But to think they will rush to receive pellets, while something else in the same tank is being fed feeders, is obviously not going to work....They are going to feed on the feeders...

Good to know! I'll have to pick up some more sometime...

They are awesome fish.. I'm actually surprised more do not keep them. They are commonly available and while not the easiest of gars to keep they are among the most interesting of them.

not ard here they arent, i've only come across 1 specimen of osseus, and it was already large and expensive:( but aside from that, osseus are awesome looking gars!

osseus is def. one of the coolest gar, but they tend to self destruct a little easier most other gar.

i dont think it would be the best decision putting the longnose in w/ those p-bass. in my opinion this will be a recipe for disaster.

also...they are easily trained off of live foods...however they will eat live feeders if you put them in for the p-bass...it's just part of their nature. the p-bass would probably beat them to the feeders anyway. hope this helps.

long nose gar don't worry they will move around more they are probably just scared the mostly hang out at the top but they go just about every where
