a nice piece of DW or some kind of nice wood that sinks without
water logging or too much tannis!

i see a lot of people with very nice & unique driftwood, bogwood & etc.
like those nice big ones, where do you guys find those? i want some too :(
every time i look at a nice setup with one big piece of nice looking wood and some
plants i look at mine and ask myself wtf happened... all i got is 3 small pieces
of DW i bought and some rocks with sand as substrate... its so dam plain &
boring i wanna grab the DW and bash my head with it for being so uncreative!
btw im in socal/la wheres a nice place to go pick up some nice wood!? im filled
with hate and jealousy like a jealous damsel cause i feel like im the only sucker with
a ugly small pieces of DW in my tank... lol.... :screwy:

You don't know where a damn is nearby. You should be able to find something there, You just have to do some driving.

Yeah you can find cool pieces but if you want that gnarled manzanita look, unless you are out west then you got to order it.

I have a large, very heavy piece of manzanita... It leached tannins in my water like crazy! I let it sit for months, and it still will release tannins.

I took it out of the tank it was is, and moved all the fish to a larger tank.. I did however transfer water over from the other tank.. more than a year later, the water is still yellowish and I do water changes every day. lol.

And the driftwood is not even in the tank.

I've gotten mine for one tank from local pet stores and from the shores of a local lake for my native tank. the wood from the pet store is mopani wood and sank immediately. the native stuff had to be waterlogged and is still kind of floaty so it's wedged in place against the sides and top.

why do you not want waterlogged wood in your water?

x2 on manzman :) I love mine. Manzanita driftwood!

I have tannins in one tank and not really in the other. Tannins are in the tank with the thicker piece.

Either way, fish can benefit from them. Though I don't really like the color :)

go to a local lake and look for unique peices that are submerged in the water, if you find a peice you like, boil it for an hour then its good for the aquarium.
1. chances are there wont be as much tannins if any.
2. piece is already waterlogged therefore no trouble trying to hold it down
3. its free! (besides gas money)
