I want really rare fish.

most rare fish are rare for a reason. Either its extremely hard to care for, ugly as sin, etc. The common fish are the ones that people like. If its a fish that was just discovered and it looks good itll become common place soon.
 
check into exCichlasoma bocourti. You don't see them all the time but they can be found without too much difficulty, and as adults they are simply stunning. :)
 
SRT are rare, in a sense that you don't see too many people with "Super Red Texas".
Most ppl claim to have a SRT but only a few are wealthy enough to own a high quality one.

Right now, I have a couple marble rays, a henlei, a black arowana, tig growing out (about 6") and a sunshine pleco. I'm also setting up a 300g tank.

WHen I look back on all of the tanks I've had, one rivals my setup now. It was 60x18x26 120. Black backgroud, black sand and some river stones. I had a dualbulb light strip (t8) one actinic light. The stock was a male Cyano, and a couple male jacks. I had 2 xp4 filters so the water was always crystal clear. Man I loved that tank, and thats with every day jacks!!!

Pick something you really love and build your tank around it.
