Mean? That's not a term i usually attach to fish. Having said that, if you want territoriality, i'd go with a Midas/red devil, but you'll need a bigger tank. Or a male convict cichlid or green terror.

Personally I'd go with a male shell cracker, or redear, or a red-eye/google eye/rock bass.

45gallons is too small for a "mean" fish sell the tank and buy a bigger tank then get something thats reallly mean

Dovii, wolf fish, snakehead, or a butterkoferi. The most aggressive that could live in a 45 for life.
