I have been doing research on the dwarf caimans for a little while and still need to do some more.
I really want one but dont think i will have a large enough home for it right away.

I was wondering if there was a reptile that was similar ( land and water) and had similar eating habits.
But stayed at a smaller size, maybe under 2 or 3 ft as oppsed to the dwarf caiman that gets 4-5 ft

Any opinions?

Well nothing compares to a crocodilian. If you want an animal with a lot of specific care needed, try a small monitor. Most people just over feed them rodents but I you look into it, they really require a lot more variety in the diet. Maybe something like a mangrove or timor monitor? They still need a ton of space and love to swim.

why do you want similar eating habits? How big of a cage are you able to provide?

From what i have read the caiman eats fish and a varied diet.
I dont mind feeding fish but i dont want to feed mice or similar things to that.

And right now just a 75 Gal but I would look into getting somthing large enough ready before it is too large.

And i am not going to get one until i know i can provide the space for it.

Thats why i was looking for somthing similar, i really like the caimans.

75 gallon? That is too small for most turtles let alone what I mentioned or a caiman. What size enclosure would you be able to provide?

For a dwarf caiman, I would provide a land area of 5'x10' and a water area of 10'x15'x1-3' deep for water MINIMUM.
